Comics University – Writing and Scripting with Ivy Noelle Weir
June 21, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Comics University returns to the St. Louis Public Library this year in participation with SLICE (The St. Louis Independent Comics Expo). These four workshops in the month of June will guide you through everything you’d need to create your own comic book: Writing, Drawing, and Editorial. Participants who attend all four sessions will receive coupons for Betty’s Books , Wizard’s Wagon , and Apotheosis .
Writing for comics takes collaboration, visual thinking, and time! Which is why we’re proud to have award-winning writer Ivy Noelle Weir join us to provide a lecture on the process of writing for comics. From writing outlines, pitches, and scripts for creator-owned works to working for hire on someone else’s IP, Ivy will walk us through some of the steps it takes to become a comic book writer.
Ivy Noelle Weir is a writer of (mostly) comics. She is the author of The Secret Garden on 81st Street and Anne of West Philly (both Little, Brown for Young Readers) and the co-creator of the Dwayne McDuffie Award-winning graphic novel Archival Quality (Oni Press). She lives in the Philadelphia area with her husband and their two tiny, weird dogs.
